A lot of environmental disasters have been plaguing the country of late and one more mighty river is unfortunately about to join the fray. Water level in the Yamuna is expected to cross the danger mark this evening, and wasting no time, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, urging people in low-lying areas to move to temporary shelters set up by the administration. The situation is expected to turn dire but the administration is trying its best to avoid any loss of life and property.

CM Kejriwal Warns of Rising Water Level of Yamuna

Kejriwal asserted his government is ready to deal with the situation that may arise. Haryana has released a record 8.28 lakh cusecs water in the Yamuna on Sunday, he said when that happens  many low lying areas in Delhi will face severe flooding. “This water is likely to reach Delhi by Monday evening and the danger mark in the Yamuna at 207.32 metres is likely to be breached,” he said.

So far, 2,120 temporary shelters have been set up, where food, water and other amenities are being provided. All people living in the risky areas are asked to go forth to higher and safer shelters. More than 23,800 people will be required to moved out from low-lying areas, according to official estimates. Following the traumatic floods of Kerala and Maharashtra, the Delhi CM is making sure that no stone remains unturned while trying to save the citizens of his city.
