The glamorous awards for the best of television has come back with a bang. With so many well deserved and contending series present, Television’s biggest awards night kicked off Sunday at 5 p.m. PT in LA. The biggest win of the night went to, yes, Game of Thrones. Despite the mixed reactions worldwide to the finale season, there was no doubt that it became a global phenomenon.  The show took home outstanding drama series, plus Peter Dinklage won a well deserved best supporting actor in a drama. A fitting farewell to the hugely influential HBO series which held people in its thrall for almost a decade.

But the Emmy’s had their fare share of drama as well. In what was the first real upset of the night, all the Game of Thrones nominees in the supporting actress for a drama category, including the favorite Lena Headey, Sophie Turner, Masie Williams and Gwendoline Christie, all having given very commendable performances, lost out to a shocked Julia Garner from Ozark. There were quite a few upsets as well. The dark comedy Fleabag was also feted by all the academy awards.
