Humans are wired to put things away for a later time. People do not want to do their laundry, clean their rooms and paint their nails. These menial tasks are drab and people mostly want to escape these chores. But how long can we procrastinate until we are in soup?

These are the reasons why we love to delay our tasks:

  1. Control: we love to control all aspects of our lives. We want to run things according to our schedule and not things controlling us. This is why we often procrastinate, thinking we’ll do it when we like.
  2. Tasks are larger than us: we often believe that the tasks are tedious. Folding our laundry for example, we may believe it’ll take us days. Honestly it doesn’t take more than an hour or so, but that’s how we are wired.
  3. Your OCD plays up: It might be that you are a perfectionist and you like your work only if its of the best character. This is why you’re putting things away for a longer time. Might be you don’t have to worry so much!
  4. Worried about failures: this may be a driving factor for your procrastinating behavior. You’re scared you’ll disappoint someone or yourself. You need to tell yourself to calm down and let things take their course.
  5. You’ve terrible self-control: a lot of people find it difficult to convince themselves to do something even if they know that its good for them. This is low self esteem and control pulling the reins.
  6. Lack of to do lists: you might be a forgetful person and that’s leading you to forget things. A terrible phenomena this can be automatically corrected with curating a to do list.
  7. Time commitments : you might be someone who doesn’t respect time commitments. This allows you to be lazy and irresponsible. You could overcome this with regular discipline.
  8. Last minute rushes: you are convinced that your last minute works would be genius. Nope. If you start working well now, you’ll be luckier and you’ll finish it on time.
  9. You’re plain lazy: that’s totally possible if you indulge your lazy genes. Train yourself to run and finish your work on time. That way you can overcome this!
