Going to a party or headed towards the office, a normal date or a casual look, having the right lip shade sparkles your look. Lipstick is one thing that can redefine your entire look, whereas a dull or poor shade could leave a devastating look.

I know making the right choice is a bit difficult and what you think suits you, might be just the reverse. Don’t worry, you can now be confident about your lip shade and pick the right color.

Look for your Skin Tone

We often base our choice on the occasion. A dark shade for a disco night or a glossy look for a party, right? But let me tell you this is one thing that you never should do. Definitely, your occasion would be influential but the first thing to watch out for is your skin tone. With the five major types as fair, light, medium, tan, and deep, one needs to be very specific in the lip color.

For ones that have a light tone or a fairer skin:

  1. Light pink,
  2. Coral,
  3. Peach,
  4. Nude, and
  5. Dusty red colors.

Girls with a medium skin tone, the lipstick shade could be anything like:

  1. Rose,
  2. Cherry Red
  3. Berry, and
  4. Mauve lipstick

For tanned skin, the following colors work best:

  1. Coral,
  2. Deep pink,
  3. Bright red

Finally, the ones that have a dark or a deeper skin tone, you can try any of the below:

  1. Caramel,
  2. Plum,
  3. Wine, and
  4. Blue-based reds.

Next is your Skin Undertone

Next to your skin tone is the undertone. It is important to know what is your undertone complexion to refine your choice of lipstick. For neutral undertone, any color would give you are a dazzling look. If you have a warmer undertone, we recommend

  • Pale pink for fairer or light skin
  • A bronze or copper shade for medium, deep or tan skin

For a cooler undertone:

  • Soft mocha for fairer or light skin
  • Cranberry for medium, and
  • Wine shade for deep or tan skin

Size & Shape

Apart from the texture of your skin, the shape and the size of them affect the choice of lip color. Picking up a wrong shade might dominate your lips leaving you busted. It’s better to be careful about which color would glow your lips and which one.

For thinner lips, it is best to go for glossy looks. Whereas if your lips are a bit plummy, but the dark shades, these will reflect the overall color beautifully.

Similarly, the shape of your lips influences your lipstick. For asymmetrical lips, anything would be good. For a heavier upper lip, a light shade on the lower followed by a darker shade on the top gives a glowing look.

Hair color

Finally, it is your hair color that determines the choice of lipstick. Here are a few combinations that might help you pick the right shade.

Dark Hair:

  • Fair and light skin- scarlet, bright pink, cherry, le plum colors.
  • Tan and deep skin: ochre, golden beige, bronze and terracotta colors.

Dark Hair

Red Hair

  • Fair skin: burnt sienna, “salmon” pink, corals, and terracotta.

Blond Hair

  • Fair and light skin: scarlet colors or any of the dusty pink, light pink and purply pink

Brown Hair:

  • Medium skin: dusty pink, beige, corals and “salmon” pink.

And yes, if you have yellowish teeth, we suggest avoiding anything between purple and brown. Stick to the red or orange.
